Michelle Brooks-Thompson Performed the National Anthem For College Women Basketball

Another is probably asking Who is Michelle Brooks-Thompson after she had just nailed a power national anthem performance? They might also be wondering where they can hear more of this artist. The Voice finalist put on a moving performance of “The Star Spangled Banner” for NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament game involving the number-one South Carolina Gamecocks and the top-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes.

People called Brooks-Thompson’s vocals were powerful and moving. Many went to the comment board than writing about her singer-songwriter qualities: One said, “Michelle Brooks Thompson was AMAZING!!! I had to look her up! !! I hope she goes viral because she bodied the national anthem! I Think the people are finally ready to hear the queen of USA sing!””

What viewers may not have realized is that Brooks-Thompson once appeared on The Voice. During Season 3 of the competition, she impress audiences with a blind audition for “Proud Mary”. Brooks-Thompson chose Adam Levine as her coach. She spoke to Mass Live then about the experience.

“I’m just seeing what comes my way. This wasn’t something that I planned or wanted to do. They asked me if I wanted to audition,’ and obviously if I came through I had a private audition scheduled for their show, and I just went with it … One of the things I firmly believe is if something is meant for you then it will happen for you at the right time,” Brooks-Thompson told MassLive.

Although ultimately she did not win the competition, The Voice gave Brooks-Thompson more exposure for her career. She also had the chance to appear on national television. Since then, she has written a book and appeared in several gospel-inspired productions. Brooks-Thompson also once described her own musical hero.

“Whitney Houston was my absolute favorite singer. I hoped to be just like her, with her talent and success, and so by the time I was 10 years old I have already been doing competitions,” Brooks-Thompson told Nhut after all was said and done with The Voice. “My first song was from Whitney Houston album, Dolly Parton song I Will Always Love You,’ and I won. I knew then that people responded, and how my voice came through at 10, even being so young, I knew it was something wanted to do and loved doing for life and knew I was meant to do it at some point in my life.”
