Despite the seismic event occurring at 10:23 a.m., schools continued their operations as usual throughout the city. Many schools promptly reached out to families to reassure them of their children’s safety. In some cases, recess was moved indoors following a city emergency alert advising residents to remain indoors, though later alerts indicated that New Yorkers could resume their normal activities, with caution regarding potential aftershocks.

During a press conference alongside other city agencies, Schools Chancellor David Banks emphasized that schools would maintain regular operations and dismissal procedures. Parents were reassured that early pickup of their children was unnecessary, and after-school programs would proceed as scheduled.

While the earthquake briefly disrupted classes across the city, causing concern among students and educators, efforts were made to restore stability. School officials implemented communication measures to check in with families and provide reassurance. However, some schools experienced additional challenges, such as water pipe issues exacerbating the situation.
